Classes are winding down, so maybe it’s time to start planning for next fall quarter.  What about running a half-marathon to start it off?  If this sounds like something you are willing to do, sign up for the GIANT Race on Sunday, September 16th.  It’s the Sunday before we start Fall Quarter, so you would have plenty to brag about.
So, what if you haven’t run a half-marathon before?  Well, if you sign up today, you have three whole months to train and no classes to interfere!  If you need more motivation, what better way to explore the city in the bay than to run it?  Participating in the race will also benefit the local San Francisco meals assistance program Project Open Hand (a program that SCAAP also helps out with)
So a t-shirt, medal, bragging rights, a bobble head, and a tour of SF.  What more can you ask for?
Go ahead and try something new!

You see it all the time. Students listening to tunes on their iPods, jamming out, lip syncing, and bobbing their heads as they stroll across campus. Have you ever wondered what they’re listening to? I know I have, so I’m getting to the bottom of it. Every week, I’m going to seek out these rockers and make a playlist of their songs and provide you with the Buckin’ Beats of the week.

  1. “Nonstop to Rudimental” ft. John Newman by Feel The Love Alessi Sia Jr., Civil Engineering Major
  2. “The A-Team” by Ed Sheeran Samantha Peterson Jr., Marketing Major
  3. “Small Town USA” by Justin Moore Camille Young Fr., Undeclared
  4. “One Thing” by One Direction Hannah Borosky Fr., Communication Major
  5. “We Want the Funk” by George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic Amanda Albertson Sr., Economics Major

“Small Town USA,” reminded us this week that not everyone at the University is from the big city. Many hail from a humble little town somewhere in this great country. These students come to Santa Clara for “One Thing,” “They Want the Funk.” At first things at Santa Clara may seem hectic to these students, but they are surprised when they find the transition from “Nonstop to Rudimental,” is almost seamless. Before they know it, these students find themselves on “The A-Team.” So for all you small town Santa Clara students, this week’s playlist is for you!

    1. “Laffy Taffy” by D4L Jay Bhula So., Finance Major
    2. “I Will” by The Beatles Matt Geber Jr., Economics Major
    3. “Impulse” feat. Leah Nascimento by Atlas Raymond Jacob Sr., Marketing major
    4. “Liquid Swords”by GZA the Genius Kevin Latta, Jr., Finance Major
    5. “HiiPower” by Kendrick Lamar Ollie Napier Sr., Communications Major

The sun continued to beat down on the smiling faces of Santa Clara students this week. So many smiles, you would have thought everyone was eating “Laffy Taffy.” When Friday rolled around students promised themselves themselves they’d get their homework done early when Saturday rolled around, ‘I Will,’ they thought. When the weekend started, “Impulse” kicked in and instead of homework students enjoyed the warm sun. Water fights were abundant. Students where battling up and down Bellomy Street with their “Liquid Swords.” And when that cutie down the street gave someone a wave, you couldn’t help ponder the power of a ‘Hi,’ or as i like to call it “HiiPower.” This week’s playlist goes out to the blossoming and beautiful spring quarter.

It’s not uncommon to find a dust bunny or two under your bed during your annual spring cleaning (that is, if you ever get around to any type of cleaning in the first place). But sometimes the college environment causes a greater likelihood of strange things to be found, even if these items were never initially lost. These are student-told stories of some of the weirdest household discoveries.

  • Sophomore Shabnam Golmohammadi discovered a colony of ants in the closet of her bedroom.
  • Junior Joey Fletcher once found an unknown penguin costume in his room.
  • Sophomore Katy Wendland found a traditional Native-American rainstick.
  • Junior Raymond Jacob found a kitten in his garage and had a hard time giving it to animal services because he found that he liked it so much.
  • But freshman Emily Collins takes the cake with these bananas she found in her dorm room drawer, shown below.

Happy cleaning, Santa Clara!

  4. “Sail” by AWOLNATION Blake Fery So., Finance Major
  5. “212” feat. Lazy Jay by Azealia Banks Sarah Ryan So., Management Major
  6. “Going to Make a Time Machine” by The Majestic Arrows Brendan Murphy Jr., Political Science Major

This last week started off with a dreary and rainy few days. “Volume,” with its slow, dark, yet head bobbin’ hip-hop beat encapsulates how the week began. As the clouds began to clear, Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” depicted the sun emerging and dancing across Swig lawn. As the weekend began, and the students came out to play, the electronic and fast-paced “Touloese,” “212,” and “Sail” captured the fun and crazy Bellomy St. atmosphere the weekend so often provides. And finally, Monday reared its ugly head, and many students wished that they could build a “Time Machine” for all their procrastinated school work.
